Let's Go Exploring! #184.

Dear friends,

You can skip below to 4 quick highlights for each step of my formula for turning dreams into reality. Or, you can read this quick behind-the-scenes update.

Life has been a little challenging. Before I explain, I know some of you have been worried, so I want to reassure y'all that I'm actually doing really well and grateful for all the growing that I've been doing.

Anyway... I've been really sick for months. I believe it is due to burnout. And when a good friend died, it threw me over the edge. Since then, one thing has led to another, and I now have laryngitis. I only say that because the lesson I learned, besides the need to simplify my life, is that I really love to hear myself talk. Haha.

Another lesson learned, contradictory to me talking about this, is that focusing on being ill — having a pity party for yourself — is a good way to NOT live your life. So, I've been learning how to focus on what I want, NOT what I don't want. That may sound obvious, but there's no substitute for tragedy and illness to really drive a lesson home.

There are a lot more lessons to be learned here. But I will save them for my upcoming sequel to Falling Uphill.

Speaking of books... The big news this month is that I have a short story in a new anthology, which is currently #2 on Amazon in its category.

See my new book Grab Bag #3 below.

I'm also trying a new thing by offering a limited edition book signing.

Until next time, when I return healthy and more chipper than ever,
Scott

Below are 4 quick highlights for each step of my formula for turning dreams into reality. You can skip to whichever point interests you. Here is the overview of my process. Intro to how to live an amazing life.

Step 1 — Dream

Here's a quote from an unlikely source, Lara Croft's father. If you don't know, Lara Croft is a video game character similar to Indiana Jones. The following quote is fictional, but still an inspirational one.

The extraordinary is in what we do, not who we are.

Step 2 — Plan

This is my process for creating a plan:

  1. Plan for what you know.
  2. Plan for what you don’t know.
  3. Plan for what you don’t know that you don’t know. (AKA your backup or contingency plan.)

Step 3 — Explore

Here's a shareworthy adventure.

Alexander Campbell has gone on a walk around the world. Look him up online. Or if you like Instagram, here's his profile.

Step 4 — Grow!

As I mentioned in my behind-the-scenes update, focus on what you want, NOT what you don't want. In other words, when adversity strikes, it's easy to dwell on the problems, but by doing that, you are missing out on life. We all go through bumps in life. Even being sick is an experience that we can own as part of the journey.

Scott's new book

Grab Bag #3

It's a book featuring a bunch of talented authors that I know.

Grab Bag #3 features nineteen original stories across science fiction, epic fantasy, dystopian fiction, magical realism, dark fantasy, speculative horror, and surreal fiction. From the bottom of the ocean to the edge of the universe, these tales explore transformation, identity, loss, rebellion, and the uncanny—with plenty of strange stops along the way.

I recommend purchasing on Amazon*, especially if you like ebooks.

However, if you want a signed book, I'm doing something different. I'm offering only 10 limited edition, numbered signings. Yep, you're basically paying for my signature and a number, but if you're a fan, you're a fan. And of course, somewhere in the distant future, these will be worth a fortune.

My price, including shipping, is $25.00.

Dear friends, I have a super special story for you this month. One that I've been waiting for a long time. If you’ve read Falling Uphill, you know that Dennis accompanied me halfway around the world on a bicycle. Many of you have wondered what happened to Dennis and if he found what he was looking for when he returned home. I’m honored that for the 25th anniversary of my website — a website Dennis helped build — he has written this wonderful story complete with important life lessons. One...

Dear friends, I've had quite a few adventures since last time, including a trip to Scandinavia, and now an adventure that I didn't sign up for — pneumonia. Haha. Anyway, as I mentioned last time, I wanted to debut a new format for this issue. Below are 4 quick highlights for each step of my formula for turning dreams into reality. You can skip to whichever point interests you. Here is the overview of my process. (I'm not sure if I need to say this every time.) Get inspired. Dream big or...

Dear friends, Before heading off on my Scandinavian adventure, I wanted to send out a teaser email and update. (Also, I'm trying to stick to my one newsletter a month goal.) First, the update: I had my interview, or assessment as they call it, to be a diplomatic courier for the US Department of State. It was a four-hour-long, difficult and intimidating test that I'm not allowed to talk about. Unfortunately, I was 0.45 points short out of 7, so my dreams to travel the world delivering packages...
