Dear Reader, I've got a couple of articles for you today. (Below.) As for this episode of my life. I am still busy simplifying my life. I've vowed not to take on any new projects. Warren Buffett is often quoted as saying that the difference between successful people and really successful people is that "really successful people say no to almost everything." It's difficult to say no when you have an adventurous spirit. I want to soak up everything that life has to offer. And I have endless...

Dear friends, My life update is included below in today's story. I'm trying something new. Further below, you can sign up for my new email series: How to be the hero of your own life. Today's article might become part of that series. Cheers,Scott Gertrude Ederle. The first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926. Credit: The Library of Congress. Notes to our future selves Recently, I visited my parents’ home and was going through some sentimental items that I had hidden in their basement to...

Dear friends, I'm back with a quick update. I've been thinking of tagging my work with "Verified human organic content. These are my real words, real pictures, and real-life adventures." Reading and watching the AI slop being created is a lot like inorganic, fast-food junk. It hurts my brain trying to sort fact from fiction. If I were business-minded — I'm not otherwise, I wouldn't be an author — I would start a service to certify content as actually being created by a human with an...

Dear friends, I have a super special story for you this month. One that I've been waiting for a long time. If you’ve read Falling Uphill, you know that Dennis accompanied me halfway around the world on a bicycle. Many of you have wondered what happened to Dennis and if he found what he was looking for when he returned home. I’m honored that for the 25th anniversary of my website — a website Dennis helped build — he has written this wonderful story complete with important life lessons. One...

Dear friends, I've had quite a few adventures since last time, including a trip to Scandinavia, and now an adventure that I didn't sign up for — pneumonia. Haha. Anyway, as I mentioned last time, I wanted to debut a new format for this issue. Below are 4 quick highlights for each step of my formula for turning dreams into reality. You can skip to whichever point interests you. Here is the overview of my process. (I'm not sure if I need to say this every time.) Get inspired. Dream big or...

A photograph of cut-out fish hanging from ropes. The ropes divide the picture into thirds. A variation of the Law of Thirds.

Dear friends, Before heading off on my Scandinavian adventure, I wanted to send out a teaser email and update. (Also, I'm trying to stick to my one newsletter a month goal.) First, the update: I had my interview, or assessment as they call it, to be a diplomatic courier for the US Department of State. It was a four-hour-long, difficult and intimidating test that I'm not allowed to talk about. Unfortunately, I was 0.45 points short out of 7, so my dreams to travel the world delivering packages...

An infographic showing what a dream means. An arrow points to a box with the label "Who you are." An arrow points to dashed circle around the box with the label "What you believe possible." And a cloud outside everything with the label "Dreams."

Dear friends, It's been another 3 months already. My goal was to send out one newsletter a month, but I've been fighting a battle behind the scenes to keep Google happy with my website. So, if you visit, you may notice that it's faster and easier to read. In addition, I've been continuing my rebrand. More on that below. Also, I have big news. In a few weeks, I have an interview to be a diplomatic courier for the US Department of State. If all goes well, I'll be traveling the world delivering...

Dear friends, In this newsletter: A quick survey to help me build create a better website and newsletter. A new story by some guest adventurers: From backpacks to panniers to housesits. A new deleted chapter from Falling Uphill: What's the grossest thing you ate? And more. But first... ...A quick life update It's been a tumultuous time here in the States. It's been hard to watch this artificial dichotomy of left/right, good/bad play itself out. So, I've turned off the news and turned to...

Dear friends, 25 years ago today, my website went online! Our site predated social media and even blogging. We had to create everything from scratch. Since then, we've featured many guest adventurers, and inspired literally thousands of kids and adults to live their dreams. Hearing the stories of these personal transformations has been my biggest reward. At one time, it was even an official company. You can see here, I own 25,500 shares. I'm not sure what this stock is worth now — but a lot!...

Hello, I am long overdue to send an update. Life has been keeping me busy. I am glad to say that after almost two years, I have a new home in the Bay Area, California. It is an immense relief to have a foundation from which to grow. In today's newsletter: I have a new and embarrassing story about my weight loss journey, a new worksheet and some odds and ends. I'll be back in less than two weeks with a big announcement. And for the next year, I hope to be coming to your inbox on a regular...
